Denver & Rio Grande Hair Clip
This listing is for a one of a kind hair clip hand crafted with scavenged Denver & Rio Grande Railroad china plate shards that were gifted to me by somebody who found them under a railroad trestle. Often times, railroad china was thrown off of dining cars, whenever a plate or cup broke. What better way to preserve it's history, than to wear them as a piece of jewelry.
This piece was a labor of love!! I hand cut the china plate fragments with my tile saw, making a small oval shape. The plate was set in a fine silver scalloped bezel, attached to a sterling silver back plate. The entire base of the hair clip is comprised of meticulously stamped markings on sterling silver sheet. There's a total of 10 hand cut and domed circles which add lots of texture and dimension to this beautiful hair piece. Around the setting rests several hand stamped embellishments that were also hand cut and shaped. This hair clip is a show stopper. It works wonderfully for holding all hair types in various updos. It adds such a lovely flair to any outfit. The actual clip itself is a stainless steel barrette which I have attached to the main piece of sterling silver.
The clip was tumbled, for polishing and burnishing. I added a patina for extra contrast, then gave it a final polish.
