Santa Fe Bolo Tie

This listing is for a one of a kind piece of jewelry hand crafted with scavenged Santa Fe Railroad china plate shards that I found along the railroad tracks. Often times, railroad china was thrown off of dining cars, whenever a plate or cup broke. What better way to preserve it's history, than to wear them as a piece of jewelry. These pieces in particular were used on passenger trains from 1936-1970.

I hand cut the china plate fragment into a cabochon, making use of the red design you see here. The plate was set in a fine silver bezel, attached to a sterling silver back plate. The back plate was carefully hand stamped. Lots of fine detail work on these pieces. The base of the bolo tie was sawed out, filed, and sanded for comfort. On the back of the bolo tie is a hand fabricated finding, that the light brown leather cord runs through. Attached are sterling silver bolo tips. The pendant was tumbled, for polishing and burnishing. I added a patina for extra contrast, then gave it a final polish.
