Santa Fe Ring (size 8 1/2)
This listing is for a one of a kind piece of jewelry hand crafted with scavenged Santa Fe Railroad china plate shards that I found along the railroad tracks. Often times, railroad china was thrown off of dining cars, whenever a plate or cup broke. What better way to preserve it's history, than to wear them as a piece of jewelry. These pieces in particular were used on passenger trains from 1936-1970.
I hand cut the china plate fragment into a cabochon, making use of the border of the plate. The plate was set in a sterling silver bezel, attached to a sterling silver back plate that was carefully hand stamped. Four silver stamp embellishments were soldered around the setting, giving this ring lots of three dimensional edges. The ring band was also hand stamped with a split shank band.
The ring was tumbled, for polishing and burnishing. I added a patina for extra contrast, then gave it a final polish.
